This is a lovely 1930s vintage box for the storage of jewellery or trinkets. It was made in the Tatra Mountains of Poland for the English firm J&J Cash.
Surrounding the inset tapestry picture is a lovely scalloped poker work frame. The edges of the lid are decorated with the same.
The tapestry picture is finely woven and features Pheasants overlooking a meadow.
The box is complete with its original hinges and the bottom of the box has retained its original information label.
This box was made by skilled craftsmen from the Tatra Mountains in Poland. It was made to a specified design of English manufacturer J&J Cash. This firm was established back in 1846 and at this time they were England's leading silk ribbon manufacturer. The firm are still in production today and are well known for their quality woven items such as name labels, personalised luggage straps, and bookmarks.
The box started life as a cigarette box and is a lovely old piece of social history. There is no cigarette odour present.
The interior is lined with cedar wood and has two nicely partitioned storage compartments. There are new white felt linings to the bases of the compartments.

There is one small fine split in the tapestry, to the left of the first Pheasant. The tapestry has some age related darkening.
