We have 10 plus years of experience in our field, and we are also specialists of vintage and antique jewellery. We have accumulated an excellent reputation with both The Old Jewellery Box Shop and our jewellery business. Meet The Owner!

My name is Catherine Gothard.

I am the owner and manager of The Old Jewellery Box Shop, and it's me who replies to your emails and calls!

I also deal with all orders and shipping, so when you buy from us you get a very personal service!

There is another person I'd like you to meet, and that is Jim, our wonderful jewellery box restorer!

Jim plays a big part in keeping The Old Jewellery Box Shop running smoothly. He restores, refurbishes and converts many of our boxes, bringing them back to life so that they can be loved and cherished for many more years.

I met Jim a good few years ago now, and I've never once been disappointed with his restorations. He loves boxes just as much as I do, and his work ethics are as impeccable as my own. I trust him completely with every box he undertakes!

Jim and I have become very good friends and that is because he cares just as much about people, as he does about boxes. Like myself, he strives to do his very best for my customers. You will not be disappointed with any box that has been sympathetically restored by Jim!

In His Own Words ...

I have had an interest in antiques for as long as I can remember, particularly with old boxes. Over the last 50 years, I have amassed quite a collection of these wonderful pieces of social history, far too many to display properly in the house and so many were relegated to my restoration workshop!

Following my retirement a few years ago I decided to sell a few of my boxes. This is how I met Catherine, the owner of The Old Jewellery Box Shop. This chance encounter inspired me to acquire more boxes, both to enhance my own collection and for resale. It also gave me the opportunity to return to my love of box restoration.

I particularly enjoy coming across an antique box that has been sadly neglected, that is not to say that I do not source boxes that have been much loved and cared for, but I get a real ‘buzz’ from bringing a sad old box back to life.

To me each antique box has its own special character and I love the thought of it being used over the years and to muse over who made it, who owned it, and what secrets were kept in it! The unique social history locked away in these inanimate objects fascinates me, and it is a real privilege to extend their useful lives and add to their history.

The boxes I restore or convert for Catherine have work done on them which I assure you is done well, and equally important – lovingly. Antique boxes can be a sound investment but that is a secondary concern. The real joy is to own them, display them, use them, and most importantly to love them! In cherishing a box you become another important part in its unique history.

Our Jewellery Boxes

Our Boxes & How We Package Them

We sell antique jewellery boxes from the Georgian, Art Nouveau, Victorian and Edwardian periods, and vintage jewellery boxes from the Art Deco era onwards.

Our boxes originate from all over the world. From England, Italy, Japan, China, India, and the Middle East. We research all of our boxes fully to provide you with as much information as possible.

Our boxes are made from many materials, primarily woods such as Walnut, Rosewood, Mahogany, Olive Wood and Oak. We also sell sterling silver, brass, papier mache, and leather jewellery boxes. We have some beautiful musical jewellery boxes, and others converted from glove boxes and tea caddies.

Where necessary our boxes are beautifully restored/refurbished by our trusted skilled craftsman.

We wrap our boxes securely in bubble wrap. They then go into strong cardboard boxes and are further secured with cushioning air pillows. We pride ourselves on our careful packaging and have never had any boxes damaged in transit!

We recycle packaging where possible.

*We occasionally use 1st class Recorded Delivery for our small and less valuable boxes.

Fast International Shipping!

Deliveries to Europe take 3-5 working days. Deliveries to the rest of the world take 5-7 working days. Delivery can be longer if customs are involved in your country.

The cost for International postage is a very reasonable £20. We have kept this as low as possible!

What are your opening Hours?

You can purchase from us online via our shopping basket, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! We are available to take calls 7 days a week, between 9am and 5pm, and we reply to messages via text, WhatsApp, our website's live chat box and our social media pages up to 11pm.

Do you offer discounts and FREE shipping?

We always offer FREE shipping to our customers who live within the UK. This excludes the ROI. All of our UK & INTERNATIONAL returning customers can enjoy a discount of 5 or 10 percent on all subsequent orders. Your discount codes will be sent to you via email after placing your 1st order. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major debit & credit cards and Paypal. We do not accept Paypal E-Cheques. Please view our Payments & Returns page for full details.

What are your postage costs?

Postage is always FREE to our UK Customers. Postage to our International customers is 25 UK pounds. Please visit our Orders & Delivery page for full postage information.

What postal services do you use and do they include postal insurance?

UK customers: We use Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery or Parcelforce Express 24hr/48hr delivery. We use Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery for some of our small and less valuable boxes. These services include insurance against postal loss or damage and are very fast and efficient services. A signature is required when you receive your parcel, so you can be sure that it won't fall into the wrong hands! INTERNATIONAL customers: We use Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For airmail postage. These services include postal insurance. Royal Mail tracked includes the tracking of your parcel until the point it leaves the UK. A signature is required when you receive your parcel, so you can be sure that it won't fall into the wrong hands! Please note that Royal Mail Tracked is not available for certain countries. We will inform you of what service we have used once we have posted your box. Please contact us prior to ordering if you wish to know if tracking is available for your country. How do I place an order?

Ordering is really easy! A full breakdown of the ordering process is available on our Orders & Delivery page.

When will my order arrive?

UK customers: If your order was placed by 12pm it will usually arrive on the *next working day by Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery, Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery (on our small and less valuable boxes) or Parcelforce Express 24hr Delivery. *The exception to this is when we use Parcelforce Express 48hr Delivery. We occasionally use this service when a box is particularly large or heavy. The service we intend to use for your box will be stated below its description. INTERNATIONAL customers: Orders to Europe will usually arrive within 3-5 working days. Orders to the rest of the world usually arrive within 5-7 working days. The delivery times for international orders vary, depending on the speed of your local postage service. You may experience a delay in delivery if customs are involved in your country. All International orders arrive in their designated countries within a few days, at which point your local services take over.

What do I do if my order is late arriving?

In the unlikely event that your order is late, please contact us by telephone, text, or email. We will track your order direct with Royal Mail and find out why it is late arriving. We will then get back to you with the information we receive and set about rectifying the issue. In the extremely unlikely event that your order gets lost, we will refund your money with no fuss! We will place a claim with Royal Mail and refund your money as soon as their designated time for lost items passes.

What is your returns policy?

We have a sensible 28 day no quibble returns policy! All we ask is that you return the item within 28 days by a registered postal service that includes insurance and collects a signature from us when we receive it back. Box's should be repacked as well as possible, in their original cardboard packaging. You will receive a full refund on the purchase price within 14 days of us receiving the box back. We will not issue a refund if the box gets lost or damaged on its way back to us. In the event of returned postal loss or damage, it is the customer's responsibility to make a claim with the postal company used. We do not refund returned postage fees.
