This is an absolutely stunning antique jewellery box, dating to the late Victorian period. Circa 1890/1900.
This box has a beautiful black lacquered finish and is profusely inlaid with Mother of Pearl and other exotic shells.
There is a stunning large inlaid scene on the lid, featuring exotic birds (Parakeets), flowers and leaves. There are also flowers and leaves on all 4 sides of the box.
The shell inlay has beautiful pastel shades of pink, blue and green. It is of a very high-quality and set flush into the wood. It gives off a wonderful iridescent shine.
There is a dusting of glitter beneath the scene of the lid.
All of the above decoration, sparkles and shines brightly when it catches the light.
The lid is complete with its original working lock and key. It is also complete with its original brass hinges.
There is a beautifully engraved brass escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box stands raised on its original, beautifully turned bun feet.
The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a new hardwood storage tray with 4 compartments and beneath this is a further single large compartment. The tray has been lacquered to match the rest of the box, and it has a new red felt covering on the bottom.
All of the compartments have new high-quality satin linings which are a colourful raspberry red shade.
The compartments in the tray are of varying shapes and sizes. The rear compartment is ideal for laying out chains and necklaces. The front side compartments are ideal for small/medium size pieces of jewellery such as rings, earrings, brooches and pendants. The front centre compartment is ideal for larger pieces such as bracelets and slender bangles/watches.
The large single compartment has a good amount of room and is ideal for beads and thicker bangles/watches.
The inside of the lid has a beautiful shell inlaid branch with a central flower and leaves. This is a lovely surprise when you open the box.
Our Jewellery Box Restorer
You can read about Jim, our wonderful box restorer, by visiting our About Us page.
This beautiful box is in fabulous antique condition. It has sound structure and only very minor light wear. The condition is amazing despite its age.
The hinges and lock are in good working order. The box locks securely.
All of the satin linings, being new, are clean, neatly fitted and in unused condition.
The inlay is in terrific condition, just a couple of teeny spots missing to the leaves on the lid. Barely noticeable.
Notes About Antique Locks

Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
You can view our full returns policy which includes locks, by visiting our Payments And Returns page.
Please note. When the storage tray is removed from the box, the box will tilt back until jewellery is placed in the lower compartment.
