The box has a beautiful curved design and stands raised on its original tapered feet.
The bottom of the box has retained its original song title and manufacturers labels. Details of the song and manufacturer are given below.
The box is complete with its original lock and pretty decorative key. There is an inlaid brass escutcheon to the keyhole.
The interior has a single storage compartment and the musical movement is cased to the right of this. The compartment and casing have soft plush linings which are a lovely crimson red shade.
The inside of the lid has a beautiful Mahogany veneer and an inset oval mirror. The mirror is nicely framed with braided red silk cord trim.
The Musical Movement
The movement is in perfect working order and plays the beautiful theme tune from the 1970 film 'Love Story'. The musical score was written by Francis Lai and its original lyrics were by Carl Sigman. The song has been recorded/covered by Henry Mancini, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey and Tony Bennett.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. 4 turns of the key are all that's required to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed, or when the movement is fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements And Locks
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning.
Vintage movements and locks are already old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction.
We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for locks and movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please read our returns policy which includes our policy on musical movements and locks.
The lock and movement will be checked again prior to postage.
