This is a wonderful antique Rosewood jewellery box with a stunning fully refurbished interior. It is complete with its original working lock and key.
Late Regency/Early William IV. 1820-1835.
This box has a lovely Rosewood veneer which has a beautiful rich colour and superb figuration.
The box has a stylish Sarcophagus shape and a raised panel to the centre of the lid. This has a decorative carved frame and a beautiful inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche.
The lid and front are beautifully decorated with Mother of Pearl dot roundels and pewter stringing.
There is a lovely inlaid, diamond shaped, Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the keyhole.
The bottom of the box has a felt covering and small turned bun feet. These are old replacements which have been done very well.
The box is complete with its original brass hinges and its original working brass lock and key. The hinges are quality 'stop' hinges which hold the lid upright.
The interior looks beautiful, having been fully refurbished by our skilled box restorer.
There is a new French polished hardwood tray at the top which has multiple compartments. Beneath this is a further large single storage compartment.
The compartments of the tray have new satin linings and new silk pull tabs. These enable you to lift out the tray with ease. The lower compartment has a new padded satin panel. The satin is a beautiful slate grey shade.
There are six compartments in the storage tray which are various shapes and sizes. The front compartment is ideal for laying out chains and necklaces. The corner compartments are ideal for small pieces of jewellery such as rings, brooches, earrings and pendants. The centre compartments are ideal for larger pieces of jewellery such as slender bangles and watches. The bottom of the tray has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The lower large compartment is wide and spacious. It is ideal for broader bangles and watches and chunky beads.
The inside of the lid has a beautiful new print of Berkshire's Benham Park. This is a stunning scenic print, the original of which dates to the 18th century Regency period.
Both the inside of the lid and walls of the lower compartment, have beautiful floral paper linings. This is a high quality heavy guage paper which is durable.
Our Jewellery Box Restorer
You can read about Jim, our wonderful box restorer, by visiting our About Us page.
This beautiful box is in very good condition and has sound structure.
All of the Mother of Pearl inlay and pewter stringing is present and securely seated. There is minor light wear and discolouration to the inlay, and minor light wear to the veneer. The wear is commensurate with age and honest use.
There is a fine hairline split within the Rosewood veneer on the back of the box. This is superficial and does not affect the structure of the box.
The interior linings, being new, are in superb clean unused condition.

Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
