This is a beautiful antique jewellery box. It was made during the Arts & Crafts movement of the Art Nouveau period. Circa 1890/1900.
The box is made of solid stained Oak and has the form of two stacked books. The lid has a beautiful hand-carved centrepiece which features flowers and vines. These were popular organic motifs during the Arts & Crafts movement.
The box is complete with its original hinges and has a lid which you simply lift up.
The interior has a removable storage tray at the top and a further deeper compartment is beneath this. Both have their original soft velvet linings which are a lovely sage green colour.
This wonderful box is in very good condition with only minor light wear from age and use. The hinges are still in perfect working order and the box has sound structure.
The carved feature on the lid has lifted very slightly but is still securely attached.
The interior linings are in good clean condition with no splits or fraying.
There are surface scratches on the bottom of the box from where it has been moved around over the years.
