This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, made in Italy in the 1970s. It is complete with its original working lock and key.
This box has a beautiful veneered exterior. The lid has beautiful floral inlay made up of various woods. Satinwood stringing surrounds the inlay and there is also Satinwood stringing around the box. The lid is highly polished and has a beautiful sheen.
The body of the box is also polished and varnished.
The box stands raised on tapered resin feet and the bottom of the box has its original MADE IN ITALY label.
The lid has its original gold metal hinges, and its original working lock and key. The hinge on the lid is a quality 'stop' hinge which prevents the lid from falling back.
The box is complete with its original working lock and key.
The interior has two swing opening compartments, and two further compartments beneath. The musical movement is cased between the lower compartments. There is a teeny drilled hole in the movements casing where a ballerina would once have been. The compartments have their original plush blue felt linings.
The inside of the lid has a beautiful inlaid Satinwood panel. The Satinwood is stained and has a wonderful highly polished finish. It is very glossy and beautifully smooth.
Notes About Vintage Locks
We would like to make you aware that vintage locks can suddenly malfunction at any time.
They are already old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use, once boxes are purchased.
Please ensure the lock is working as soon as you receive your box.
You can view our full returns policy which includes locks, by visiting our Payments And Returns page.
The Musical Movement
The movement is in good working order and is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. 5 turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed, or when the movement is fully unwound.
We do not recognise the tune and so are unable to give it a title.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to over wind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are over wound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use, once boxes are purchased.
Please read our returns policy which includes our policy on musical movements.
This beautiful box is in very good condition with very little wear.
There is a teeny chip to the left of the keyhole. Careful insertion of the key from now on will prevent this from chipping further. There is also a teeny chip in front of the lock, caused by the lock keep rubbing the wood. Again, careful insertion of the keep into the lock will prevent this area from further wear.
All of the inlay is present and intact, and the box is of sound structure.
The interior felt linings are in lovely clean and undamaged condition.
The hinges are in good working order and the box locks securely.
