This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1870/1880. Its interior has been fully refurbished by our skilled box restorer, and the box is complete with its original working lock and key.
The exterior has a beautiful Rosewood veneer. There is superb Mother of Pearl foliate inlay and Mother of Pearl inlaid roundels, to both the lid and front of the box, as well as decorative inlaid pewter stringing. There is also a very stylish inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the lock.
The Rosewood has lovely figuration and attractive light colouration.
The box is complete with its original brass lock and its original quality brass stop hinges. These prevent the lid from falling back.
There is a new red felt covering on the bottom of the box, added to protect the surfaces of your furniture.
The lock is working but is a little stiff.
The interior has been very beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a new hardwood tray with multiple compartments, and its original large compartment is beneath this.
The compartments of the tray have new satin linings and their interior walls have new paper linings. The tray has been French polished and stained and has a new red felt cover on the bottom. This matches the covering on the bottom of the box.
The base of the large compartment beneath the tray has a new padded satin panel. Its inner walls have new paper linings.
The inside of the lid has a new satin panel and new paper linings to its interior walls.
All of the satin is a beautiful Raspberry red shade. The satin and paper linings are matching throughout the interior.
Our Skilled Box Restorer
You can meet Jim, our wonderful box restorer, by visiting our About Us page. His work is always of a very high quality, and he puts a lot of love into whatever he undertakes!
This wonderful box is in excellent condition for its 130/140 years of age. It is a solid sturdy box with sound structure.
There are minor slight stress marks to the veneer on the lid, and the wood around the left hinge interiorly. These are not overly obvious and they do not affect the structure of the box.
The interior linings, being new, are in perfect unworn condition.
The hinges are still in excellent working order.

They are already very old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once the box is purchased.
