This is a lovely antique jewellery box, dating to the late Victorian period. It has a warm chestnut brown, leather covered exterior, and is complete with its original working lock and key. There is a large stylish metal plate to the lid, complete with its swing handle, and a matching metal escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box is complete with its original stop hinges which prevent the lid from falling right back.
It also has its original textured covering on the bottom.
The interior is complete with its original storage tray. This has 2 narrow side compartments and a centre compartment with a circular ring which was originally designed to hold a pocket watch. This is a lovely feature of the tray and is ideal for storing a locket or pendant. The side compartments are ideal for little pieces of jewellery such as earrings and brooches etc. There is a lovely ring storage section behind the front compartments which will hold 8 or so rings depending on their sizes.
There are 2 much larger and deeper compartments beneath the storage tray. These will hold bigger pieces of jewellery such as bangles, bracelets, watches, necklaces and beads.
There are padded red satin panels to the inside of the lid, the side compartments in the tray, and the two large compartments beneath. The ring storage section and centre compartment of the tray have lovely maroon red velvet coverings. The tray has a red satin cover on its base and is finished with a deep maroon leather covering. The interior walls and divider to the base compartments, are finished with the same matching leather.
All of the above is completely original and the tray is complete with its original leather covered pull tabs.
This wonderful old box is in very fair condition for its 110/120 years of age. It is structurally sound and has weathered well!
The interior satin and velvet furnishings are in very good condition. There are some minor pulls to the satin on the inside lid, most likely from where brooches or pins were once attached.
There are a few little patches of wear/some marks to the leather, both internally and externally. This is as we would expect with its age. The wear is natural and adds character to the box, showing its been loved and used for its purpose! Please view all of the photos provided, as boxes with wear are not to everybody's taste. Thank you.
The lock is currently in excellent working order.
