Stunning vintage veneered Bubinga wood jewellery box. Rare Pommele grain to the Bubinga and beautiful mosaic inlaid bands. Beautiful purple felt-lined interior. Working lock and key.

This is an absolutely stunning vintage jewellery box with superb Bubinga wood veneer. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and has a beautiful Victorian design.
The Exterior
The veneer on this box is made from the African hardwood, Bubinga. As you can see on the photos provided, it has an absolutely stunning figured pattern. This wood comes in a variety of grains, with that on this box being known as Pommele. This is one of the rarer and more expensive Bubinga grains.
There are beautiful colourful mosaic inlaid bands on both the lid and front of the box. These bands are reminiscent of Berlin strapwork bands which you find on much older/antique boxes. They are made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of wood, consisting of several different varieties. Some of the pieces have a vibrant blue stain and these have added a beautiful splash of colour to the box.
There is a beautiful inlaid escutcheon to the keyhole which has a decorative diamond shape. This is also made from a few different varieties of wood.
The box has beautiful polished brass hinges. It also has a working lock and a beautifully shaped and pierced brass key.
There is a soft felt covering on the bottom of the box which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a removable storage tray at the top and a larger single compartment beneath.
The tray, lower compartment, plus the inside of the lid, all have stunning soft purple felt linings. Those to the inside of the lid and the base of the lower compartment are plumply padded.
There are further beautiful inlaid strips to the inside top edges of the lid and box. The top edges of the storage tray have beautiful strips of inlay also.
As you can see this is a very high-quality box with its decorative rare veneer, beautiful inlay and stunning lined interior! The workmanship is superb.
Condition
This beautiful box is in very good condition. It has sound structure and very little wear.
All of the inlay is present and intact. It is beautifully set, flush against the veneer.
All of the interior linings are in superb, clean, undamaged condition. They are neatly fitted and have seen very little use.
The hinges and lock are still in excellent working order.
There is a small chip to the veneer on the front top right corner of the lid.
