This is a beautiful antique jewellery box with a fully refurbished interior. It dates to 1870/80.
The Exterior
The exterior has a lovely Rosewood veneer which has beautiful figuration. Its lid has decorative floral Mother of Pearl inlay, plus pewter stringing, and the lock has an inset Mother of Pearl escutcheon. This has a stylish diamond shape and it compliments the inlay on the lid.
The box is complete with its original brass 'stop' hinges which prevent the lid from falling back. It is also complete with its original key and working brass lock.
The box has beautiful rounded edges which is a sign of high quality workmanship. Rounded edges are much harder to create on a box.
The bottom of the box has a new red paper covering.
The Interior
The interior has been relined with a quality paper which has Fleur de Lis style flowers. It has a single storage compartment.
History
This beautiful box started its life as a quality Victorian Lady's glove box. It now makes a beautiful box for jewellery storage.
Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition for its 130/40 years of age. It is structurally sound and has no loss of veneer. All of the Mother of Pearl inlay and pewter stringing, is present and intact.
The lock is a little stiff.
