This is a beautiful vintage jewellery box with a stunning sterling silver panel on the lid. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and is in very good condition.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood which has been stained a beautiful Mahogany shade.
There is a stunning large solid silver panel on the lid which has a beautiful Victorian floral design.
There is a polished blank cartouche in the centre of the panel which can be personalised with an engraved name/initials/date if desired.
The flowers on the panel are in high relief and the rest of the silver has a lightly planished finish.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment with a ring storage section at the back. This will hold rings with narrow bands and can also be used to hold hoop and stud earrings. You can also place further small pieces of jewellery on the flattened surface of this section.
The compartment and the inside of the lid are lined with soft brushed velvet. This is a lovely burgundy shade and it compliments the colour of the box.
There is a beautiful diamond shaped sterling silver lozenge to the velvet inside the lid. This bears the name of the box's manufacturer.
The Manufacturer
This beautiful box was made in Israel by a well established company called Hazorfim. Hazorfim are manufacturers of beautiful fine gifts, either made of silver or decorated with silver. The company was established in 1952 and they are still in production today.
This particular Hazorfim box dates to the 1980s/90s. It is now a retired design.
Silver Hallmark
The silver panel has an Italian silver hallmark which loosely dates it to between 1968 and the present year. It has the silversmiths registration number (139) and the two letter abbreviation (MC) of the province in Italy where the silversmith was registered. The MC abbreviation is for the province Macerata. There is also a 925 sterling silver stamp present.
Condition
This box is in very good condition.
The interior is in near perfect condition and appears to have been rarely used to store jewellery.
The exterior is also in very good condition. There is a tiny mark on the left side of the lid, and a scratch just beneath the left hinge. Neither spoil the beautiful appearance of the box.
There is some minor light tarnish on the silver.
