This is a wonderful large antique jewellery box, dating to 1900/1910. It is a beautifully constructed, one-off unique box, handmade by an amateur craftsman.
The box has solid brass corner bands and a decorative brass keyhole escutcheon.
The lid has a stylish 'stepped' design and is detailed with inlaid brass stringing.
The front of the box has 2 storage drawers with pretty flower-shaped handles. These are new replacement handles, fitted to replace the worn originals. The handles have a design in keeping with those from the period the box was made.
All of the decorative brass work is original and so too are the brass stop hinges, brass lock, and key.
The interior has been completely refurbished by our wonderful skilled restorer! It has a new removable storage tray with multiple compartments of various sizes. This is in keeping with the worn original. There is a larger, single storage compartment, beneath the removable tray.
There are new padded red silk panels to all of the compartments, the 2 storage drawers, and also to the inside of the lid. The walls of the compartments and drawers have new red paper linings.
There is beautiful figuration to the pine, particularly on the back, sides and lid. There is a lovely knot to the pine at the back. The pine still has its lovely characteristic aroma.
The box sits raised on four 'stepped' feet.

Late Victorian/Early Edwardian. 1900/1910.
Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition for its 100 plus years of age. There are two small pieces of wood missing to the back corners of the lid which are not visible from the front. These areas have been smoothed over.
