This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, made in Italy in the 1980s.
The Exterior
The box has an eye catching hexagonal shape and beautiful marquetry inlay. The inlay has a decorative oriental like design. It features an urn, birds, and scrolling leafy vines. The wood has a polished and varnished finish which has given it a glossy sheen. The box stands slightly raised on tapered resin feet.
The Interior
The interior has a storage compartment to the front and a shallower storage ledge behind. The musical movement is concealed beneath the ledge.
The interior has soft beige suedette linings.
There is a large fitted mirror to the inside of the lid.
The box is complete with its original 'stop' hinge. This prevents the lid from falling back.
The Musical Movement
The music is operated via a wind up key on the bottom of the box. The tune is very pretty but we have not been able to decipher its title. The movement is in excellent working order.
Operating the musical movement
5 turns of the key are sufficient to wind up the musical movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement is fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to over wind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are over wound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use, once boxes are purchased.

Condition
This fabulous box is in excellent condition despite its 30 plus years of age. It is structurally sound and has very little wear.
The interior linings are very good with no splits or stains. It appears that the interior has seldom held jewellery, if at all.
The mirror is clear and has no cracks or chips.
