This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box dating to 1860/1870. It has a Rosewood veneer with Mother Of Pearl inlay and a beautiful fully refurbished interior.

The Exterior

This box has a wonderful Rosewood veneer which has a beautiful rich colour and superb figuration.

The lid has an iridescent Mother of Pearl cartouche and Mother of Pearl dotted roundels. There is a complimentary Mother of Pearl shield escutcheon to the keyhole.

The lid has a beautiful domed form and decorative inlaid pewter stringing between the roundels.

The cartouche is 'blind' and can be personalised with an engraved name or initials if desired. Your local key cutter can usually provide a reasonably priced engraving service.

The box is complete with its original working brass lock and key. It also has its original brass 'stop' hinges which hold the lid upright. The key is a lovely decorative shape.

There is a new felt covering on the bottom of the box which will protect the surfaces of furniture.

The Interior

The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer.

The base of the compartment has a new padded satin panel and there are new satin linings to the walls. The satin is a lovely sage green shade.

The inside of the lid has new quality paper linings. That to the centre is grey and white with floral motifs and that to the walls is textured and an apple green shade.

Age/History

This beautiful box dates to 1860/1870. It is a high-quality box which started life as a stylish ladies glove box. It would've sat on a dressing table, storing her expensive silk gloves. It is now a functional jewellery box alongside being a wonderful piece of social history.

Condition

This beautiful box is in excellent condition. It is structurally sound and has no damage.

All of the Mother of Pearl inlay is present and intact and the inlaid pewter stringing is still securely seated. There is minor light age-related wear to the veneer.

The interior linings, being new, are in excellent pristine unused condition.

The hinges are still in very good working order and the box locks securely.
