This is a beautiful antique jewellery box, dating to 1900/1910. It was made in Italy and is in wonderful condition. There are very pretty hand-painted Daisies on the lid.
This is a beautiful antique jewellery box, dating to 1900/1910. It was made in Italy and is in wonderful condition.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Olivewood which has superb figuration and a beautiful colour. It has pretty hand-painted Daisies on the lid and inlaid micro mosaic banding to the back, front and lid.
The box has a replacement working lock and key. The brass catch and hinges are original. The hinges are quality 'stop' hinges that prevent the lid from falling back.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment, complete with its original soft crimson red lining.
Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition for its 100 plus years of age. All of the inlay is present and intact, and the box is structurally sound. There is no loss of paint to the daisy decoration.
About Olivewood
Olivewood has a distinctive grain and rich colour which gives it its beautiful appearance. It has characteristic brown and yellow streaks which create a beautiful contrast. These features make it a sought after wood for decorative items such as jewellery boxes.
Olivewood is also favoured for its hardness. It is a strong durable wood with a fairly high density and hence it takes well to cutting and polishing.

The inlay on this box is known as 'mosaic tesselated inlay'. It is made up of 1000s of tiny pieces of wood, painstakingly put together over many hours to form intricate mosaic designs.
