Wonderful antique Walnut jewellery box with a stunning refurbished satin-lined interior. Inlaid Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell. Wonderful figuring to the Walnut. Working lock and key. Circa 1880/1890.

This is a beautiful antique jewellery box, dating to 1880/1890. It has a stunning newly refurbished interior and a working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has a wonderful Walnut veneer which has a rich colour and beautiful figuration. The lid has an inlaid Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell cartouche, and the keyhole has a matching escutcheon. The Abalone has a gorgeous iridescent shimmer and a variety of colours. This beautiful inlay is seated flush into the Walnut and has a very decorative diamond shape.
The box is complete with its original stop hinges which hold the lid upright.
The box has a newly fitted replacement lock which comes from the Victorian period. It also has a Victorian period key. It is in full working order.
The bottom of the box has its original hessian covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished and looks absolutely beautiful! All of the work has been carried out by our skilled box restorer.
The box has a new removable storage tray which has been beautifully French polished and stained. It has four storage compartments of varying shapes and sizes. The front compartment is the ideal shape and size for laying out chains and necklaces. The rear corner compartments are ideal for small pieces of jewellery such as rings, earrings and pendants, and the centre rear compartment is ideal for slightly larger pieces such as brooches and pendants.
Beneath the tray is a large spacious single compartment. This is very roomy and will hold large pieces of jewellery such as bangles/bracelets, watches and beads.
The lower compartment, the inside of the lid, and the front compartment of the tray, all have new high-quality padded satin panels. The other compartments in the tray, plus the walls inside the lid, have new high-quality satin linings.
The centre rear compartment of the tray has a silk-covered lid which was salvaged from the box's original storage tray. This has a silk pull tab which enables you to lift it up with ease, and it also has beautifully stitched pockets which were designed to hold stick pins or similar.
The bottom of the tray has a new felt lining.
The walls to the large lower compartment have new quality patterned cream paper linings.
All of the satin is a beautiful raspberry red shade.
The interior has a new red silk ribbon 'stay' which helps the lid stay upright at a nice angle.

Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition with only minor light wear which is commensurate of age and use.
The hinges and lock are in great working order and the box locks securely.
All of the satin, being new, is in beautiful, clean, unworn condition.
All of the shell inlay is still present and intact.
