Beautiful antique Victorian jewellery box with a lovely Rosewood veneer and stunning Mother of Pearl Inlay.

Beautiful Antique Victorian Rosewood Jewellery Box

This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1880/90. It has a wonderful Rosewood veneer with Mother of Pearl inlay and its original working lock and key. The interior has been partially restored, further details of which are below.

The Exterior

The box has a beautiful Rosewood veneer and quality Mother of Pearl floral inlay to the lid. The Rosewood has superb figuration and a beautiful warm rich colour. There is an inlaid bone escutcheon to the lock which is a decorative shield shape.

The box is complete with its original working lock and key, and also its original stop hinges. These prevent the lid from extending too far back.

A new green felt covering has been added to the bottom of the box to protect the surfaces of your furniture.

The Interior

The interior has its original removable storage tray which has multiple compartments and there is a further single storage compartment beneath this. There is also a fabulous storage pouch concealed within the lid.

The storage tray has 9 compartments and is absolutely beautiful! Our restorer has lovingly refurbished the tray and it now has 'sea' blue satin panels and linings. The centre front compartment has a lovely lid with a white metal knob and the edges of the tray are beautifully finished with pretty pewter beading. The knob and beading are completely original and so too are the white metal handles on each side. The exterior of the tray and the inner walls of the four small square compartments have their original painted turquoise green finish. There is a stylish sliding dial clasp to the storage pouch which keeps it securely closed. This too is original.

The single compartment beneath the tray has a new 'sea' blue satin panel in its base and the front of the storage pouch within the lid has been covered with the same. The inside of the compartment and the inside walls of the lid have a light blue painted finish.

Our Skilled Box Restorer

You can meet our wonderful restorer Jim by visiting our About Us page. His work is always of very high quality and he puts a lot of love into whatever he undertakes!

This wonderful box is in excellent condition for its 120/30 years of age. It is sturdy and structurally sound. There is only minor light superficial wear to the Rosewood and 2 teeny pieces of Mother of Pearl missing on the lid (please see image 4). The bone escutcheon is fully intact and securely set.

The interior satin, being new, is in beautiful condition and all of the pewter beading is present. There is minor light wear to the painted surfaces.

The hinges and lock are still in very good working order.

Notes About Antique Locks

We would like to make you aware that antique locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
