Beautiful small vintage Italian jewellery box dating to the 1950s. Beautiful marquetry inlay to the lid and original stunning quilted silk interior. Glossy polished and varnished finish.

This is a beautiful small vintage jewellery box, made in Italy in the 1950s.
The Exterior
The lid has beautiful marquetry inlay made up of various colourful woods. The inlaid scene features hovering birds surrounded by flowers and leaves.
There is lovely inlaid stringing to the front and back of the box and all of the wood has a glossy polished and varnished finish.
There is a stylish tapered design to the sides of the box and the box stands raised on its original tapered resin feet.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. This has its original padded and quilted silk panel and its original silk linings to the walls. The silk is a gorgeous powder blue shade.
The lid has its original polished metal piano hinge and the lid stays upright when you lift it up.
Condition
This charming little box is in great condition for its 70 years of age. It is structurally sound and has no chips or cracks. All of the inlay is present and intact.
The inner silk is in remarkable condition for its age. It has no splits or fraying and only very minor discolouration. The quilted silk panel is deeply padded and is absolutely beautiful. There is a lovely sheen to the silk.
The hinge is still in perfect working order and the feet are still secure.
