This is a superb handmade one of a kind jewellery box with the maker's name and location, model number and date seared onto the bottom. It is extremely well made and known to be one of only several similar boxes that all vary some way in their design.

This is a superb handmade one of a kind jewellery box with the maker's name and location, model number and date seared onto the bottom. It is extremely well made and known to be one of only several similar boxes that all vary some way in their design.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood and has the form of a stylish grand piano. It has numerous details including raised ebony keys, a board for a musical score, a rod to hold the lid upright, and foot pedals.
The lid has its original beautifully shaped brass hinges.
The musical score board is removable and the rod that holds the lid up can be put down so that the lid can be closed.
There is a lovely inlaid wood cartouche just above the keys which has the box maker's initials upon it. This is a beautiful little touch by the maker!
The piano stands raised on six beautifully turned legs with plinthed feet. All of the wood has a beautiful mahogany like deep stain and a protective varnished finish which has given it a glossy shine.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. The base of this has a new red felt lining which makes the compartment suitable for jewellery storage. The lining can be removed should the view of the wood beneath be preferred.
Age/Maker/Model Number
All of this information can be found on the bottom of the box which is inscribed J.A.L, J.A. Lancaster Bradford, No 6 (the model number) and 1989 (the year the box was made). On the previous model (No 1) which we sold, the inscription only included the maker's initials and didn't include the maker's location. It is wonderful that there is some extra detail on this model!

There are known to be at least six boxes by this maker, made over a number of years. Each are in the form of a piano yet all of them vary in style and construction. This makes each box completely unique. Please click on the link below to see the previous model we sold in 2024.

Condition
This beautiful unique box is in excellent condition. It has sound structure and barely any wear. The hinges are still in perfect working order and the legs are secure.
