Fabulous vintage Italian musical jewellery box from Sorrento. Beautiful burl wood veneered finish and inlaid Roses to the lid. Plush pink velvet linings to the interior. Working lock and key. Plays 'Fur Elise'.

This is a fabulous vintage jewellery box that was made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and is still in excellent condition. The box is musical and is a large example of its type. It plays 'Fur Elise' by Beethoven and has stunning inlay to the lid!
The Exterior
This box has a beautiful burl wood veneered finish and stunning inlaid roses to the lid which consist of several varieties of wood. There is also beautiful inlaid stringing detail around the edges of the lid.
All of the wood has a beautiful polished finish. It is smooth to the touch and has a gorgeous glossy sheen.
The box has a very stylish elongated octagonal shape with beautifully contoured rounded sides and corners.
The box has a polished gold metal piano hinge and is complete with its original lock and key. It has a lovely polished gold metal keyhole escutcheon with pretty embossed detail.
The box stands raised on its original beautifully turned hardwood feet.
The bottom of the box has a lovely Satinwood veneer and a new tune title label which we've added ourselves.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment and a stylish angled ring storage section. The musical movement is nicely cased to the right of the storage compartment.
There is a perspex ledge above the movement and a removable padded pink velvet panel upon this. The compartment and ring storage section are lined with the same fabric.
There is shallow storage space upon the removable padded panel and both this and the perspex ledge can be removed should the movement ever require attention. The clear perspex ledge allows you to see the beautiful polished gold movement beneath it. This is a brand new musical movement, added to replace the damaged original.
The shallow storage space (1.3cm depth) upon the ledge of the movement's casing is ideal for flat/fine pieces of jewellery such as Creole/Sleeper/Stud earrings and small pendants/brooches.
The inside of the lid has beautifully polished Mahogany veneer.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Fur Elise' by Beethoven. It is in perfect working order with the tune playing at its correct tempo.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Musical Movements And Vintage Locks
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding it. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
We would like to make you aware that vintage locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement and lock are still working as soon as you receive your box. They will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in excellent pre-loved condition. It has sound structure and very little wear.
All of the veneer and inlay is present and secure.
The hinge and lock are still in perfect working order. The key securely locks the box.
The musical movement is also in perfect working order, as stated above, and all of the feet are securely attached.
The interior linings are very neatly fitted and have no spits or fraying. There are a few marks to the velvet from previous jewellery storage.
