A beautiful Art Deco jewellery box with a newly refurbished blue satin lined interior. Made of Walnut and featuring decorative 'Oyster' cut Walnut veneered panels. Bakelite lipped handle and high-quality chrome quadrant hinges.

This is a beautiful Art Deco jewellery box, dating to the 1920s/1930s. The interior compartment has been beautifully refurbished.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Walnut. The lid and front and have superb Walnut veneered panels which have been 'oyster' cut and beautifully positioned to form a very decorative pattern. Further details of this Oystering technique are below.
The lid has a stylish white Bakelite lipped handle. Bakelite was a popular new material of the Deco period.
The box has a stylish flat streamlined shape which is typical of the Art Deco period. The front edge of the lid is beautifully curved.
The box stands raised on beautiful long Walnut block feet. These have felt coverings which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The box has superb retracting chrome quadrant hinges which are a very good sign of a high-quality box.
The Walnut to the exterior has a glossy polished finish.
The Oyster Cut Veneered Panels
Oystering is a very skilled craft. This woodworking technique uses thin slices of wood that are cut in cross-section to form circular or oval veneered panels. These panels are then placed side by side to create beautiful decorative patterns.
The Interior
The interior has a single compartment that has been newly refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a new padded blue satin panel to the base and matching new blue satin linings to the walls. The padded base panel provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
The Walnut to the inside of the lid has superb figuration and is in wonderful condition. For these reasons we have left this area unlined.

Condition
This fabulous box is in very good condition. It is structurally sound and has only minor light age-related surface wear. There are some minor fine lines within the Oyster cut panels on the lid.
The interior satin linings, being new, are in immaculate unused condition.
The hinges are still in perfect working order and have retained their polished shiny finish.
