A very stylish mid 20th century box, originally designed to hold sewing items. New plush padded velvet panels have been added to the compartments, to convert it into a box which is now functional for jewellery storage.

This is a very stylish mid 20th century box, originally designed to hold sewing items. We have added new plush padded velvet linings to the compartments, to convert it into a box which is now functional for jewellery storage.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood which has a wonderful aged patina and a protective varnished finish. The hinges and handles are constructed of a dark wood which contrasts beautifully with the lighter wood.
The top lidded trays slide out to the side via high-quality wooden cantilever hinges, and their lids have their original gold metal hinges.
The bottom of the box has some lovely old hand pencilled writing ... likely from the maker or original owner of the box.
The Interior
Both of the top trays have three compartments of varying shapes and sizes. These are ideal for small pieces of jewellery such as rings, earrings, pendants and brooches. Beneath these is a larger single compartment which is deep enough to store broad pieces of jewellery such as bangles, watches and beads.
There are beautiful new padded ivory velvet panels to the bases of all of the compartments. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
The New Velvet Linings
These have been completely handmade to ensure they fit the compartments perfectly. A quality premium velvet has been used. This is plush and has a beautiful tight weave.

Age/History
1950s/1960s.
This box started its life as a wonderful sewing box and is a lovely piece of social history!
Condition
This box is still in excellent condition despite its 60/70 years of age. It has sound structure and only very minor light wear.
The interior velvet panels, being new, are in immaculate clean unworn condition.
The hinges are still in good working order.
Measurements
