Beautiful vintage Italian jewellery box from Sorrento in Southern Italy. Mahogany stained veneer and beautiful marquetry inlay. The interior compartment has been fitted with a new padded velvet panel and pink cotton linings.

This is a small Italian jewellery box with beautiful marquetry inlay. It is the ideal shape and size for a bangle or alternatively, it can be used to house a small collection of jewellery. The box was made in Sorrento, Southern Italy and it dates to the 1970s/1980s.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Olivewood. It has a lovely stained veneer and beautiful marquetry inlay to the lid. The marquetry features scrolling leafy vines that form a heart at the top. It also features mythological gryphon like creatures. There is lovely inlaid stringing around the marquetry and also around all four sides of the box.
The box has its original brass stop hinges that hold the lid upright.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment that has been newly furbished. It has a new plump padded red velvet panel in the base and its walls have new pink cotton linings. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
Condition
This box is in lovely vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and use. There is a tiny piece of veneer missing at the bottom front left corner. This is barely noticeable.
The interior velvet panel and cotton linings are in unused condition, being new.
