This is a stylish Art Deco jewellery box with a beautiful faux alligator skin covering and beautiful polished chrome fitments.
The Exterior
This box has a beautiful textured faux alligator skin covering. This has a lovely warm tan shade and a naturally aged, soft, nubuck-like feel.
The box has its original polished chrome lock and and its original large decorative polished chrome keyhole escutcheon. The lock is stamped BRITISH MADE.
Note: The lock isn't functional and therefore has no key.
The box has beautiful polished chrome hinges. These are high-quality retracting quadrant hinges.
The bottom of the box has its original covering.
The Interior
The interior has its original linings. There are beautiful beige watered silk padded panels to the inside rear wall of the lid and base of the compartment. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery. The interior walls of the lid have their original faux alligator skin coverings, and the interior walls of the compartment have their original smooth faux leather-like linings.
Note: This box originally had a storage tray which is sadly missing. This is reflected in the price of the box.
Age
Circa 1920s/30s
Condition
This box is still in very good condition despite its 90-100 years of age. There are some surface scratches and a few small stains to the faux alligator skin, but it is still in good condition overall with a lovely naturally aged/worn appearance/feel.
The hinges are still in perfect working order.
The interior silk panels and leather-like linings are still neatly fitted. The silk is in good condition with some minor small marks. There is some wear to the leather-like lining on the front inside wall of the compartment.
