A beautiful old English Victorian box, originally designed to hold snuff. We have added new plush velvet linings to the compartment, to convert it into a box which is now functional for jewellery storage.

This is a beautiful old English Victorian box, originally designed to hold snuff. We have added new plush velvet linings to the compartment, to convert it into a box which is now functional for jewellery storage. It is a charming dainty box which will hold a few small pieces of jewellery such as stud earrings and small pendants. Please see the internal measurements given below.
The Exterior
This box is made of papier mache and has a black lacquered finish which has a wonderful aged patina. The lid has a decorative inlaid pewter cartouche and a frame of inlaid pewter stringing. The cartouche has very faint I.S initials. These engraved initials have worn over time and are now barely visible.
The box has a lovely hinged lid.
The Interior
The interior compartment has been fully refurbished with beautiful new royal blue velvet linings. The base panel is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The New Velvet Linings
These have been completely handmade to ensure they fit the compartment perfectly.
A quality premium velvet has been used. This is plush and has a beautiful tight weave.

History
This box started its life as a wonderful snuff box and is a lovely piece of social history!
Condition
This box is in very good condition for its age. It has no nasty cracks and only minor light wear to the lacquered finish, mainly confined to the inside edges of the lid. This is friction wear from the many years of the lid being opened and closed.
The interior velvet linings, being new, are in immaculate clean unworn condition.
The hinge is still in good working order.

International postage is £30 by Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For postage. Delivery is fast, within 3-5 working days to Europe and 5-7 working days to the rest of the world. Delivery may be longer depending on the speed of your local postal service and/or if your parcel has to go through customs. Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
