A lovely antique jewellery box, made during the Art Nouveau period. Circa 1890/1900. Decorative copper handle to the lid and wonderful dovetail joints. New padded velvet panels to the interior compartments.

This is a lovely hand-made antique jewellery box. It was made during the Arts & Crafts movement of the Art Nouveau period, circa1890/1900.
The Exterior
This box is made of a solid hardwood which has been stained a lovely deep mahogany like colour.
The lid has a decorative swing handle and plate, with the plate having beautiful repousse floral detail and a hammered finish. Both are made of copper and have a wonderful aged dark patina.
There is a lovely shallow raised panel on the lid and the box has wonderful dovetail joints.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The box has its original brass lock and what appear to be replacement hinges. Please note the lock is no longer functional and therefore has no key. Please see the notes in the condition section below.
The Interior
The interior has its original three compartment storage tray which sits above a larger single compartment. All of the interior has been painted a pale teal blue shade at some point during its life.
We have refurbished the bases of all compartments with new pale gray padded velvet panels. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
The bottom of the tray has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
Condition
This lovely old box has sound structure and is in fair condition for its age. It has seen a good amount of use and therefore has some flaws and wear.
The interior velvet panels, being new, are in clean unworn condition.
The lock is not functional and the lugs of the lock keep have been removed by a previous owner at some point.
The inside top edges of the lid and box have been newly stained in recent years, again by a previous owner. There are also a few knocks to the inside top edges. Some excess stain is present on the hinges.
As you can see this box has some old 'war wounds', however these have given it a certain charm and character. Please take this into consideration before purchasing the box as it may not appeal to some.
