A lovely stylish Art Deco musical jewellery box with an inset Scottish Terrier on the lid. Made of solid Oak and with new velvet linings to the interior. Circa 1930s.

This is a lovely Art Deco musical jewellery box, dating to the 1930s and playing the 'Bells of St Mary's'.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Oak and has a stylish rectangular streamlined design. The Oak is beautiful Tiger Oak and its charateristic stripes can be seen on the lid.
The lid has a large inset Scottish Terrier (Scottie Dog) which is made of beautiful mottled celluloid.
The front of the box has beautifully carved, hollowed out arches.
The box has its original beautifully shaped feet, complete with their original felt coverings. These will prevent the surfaces of furniture from becoming scratched.
The box has its original hinges and its original Swiss Thorens song title label on the bottom.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment and the musical movement is cased to left of this. The base of the compartment and the ledge covering the musical movement, have new emerald green velvet linings. The lining to the compartment is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. As well as the compartment, there is further storage space upon the ledge concealing the movement.
The Musical Movement
This box has its original Swiss Thorens musical movement. This plays the pretty tune 'Bells of St Mary's'.
The movement is in good working order.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in lovely vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light surface wear.
The interior linings, being new, are in clean unused unworn condition.
