A pretty vintage Japanese musical jewellery box with a cream lacquered finish and hand-painted floral decoration. The interior has its original linings and fitted mirror. Circa 1950s/1960s.

This is a pretty vintage musical jewellery box, made in Japan in the 1950s/1960s. It is decorated with beautiful flowers and the interior has its original linings.
The Exterior
This box has a lovely cream lacquered finish and a beautiful hand-painted Rose and leaves. The Rose has a lovely raised texture which has given it a three-dimensional like effect.
There is a pretty engraved metal escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box is complete with its original working lock and key. It also has its original hinges.
The Interior
The interior has two storage compartments and its original fitted mirror to the inside of the lid. The musical movement is concealed beneath a ledge to the right of the lower compartment. The top compartment automatically rises on quality cantilever hinges when the lid is lifted. The lids to this compartment have hand-painted decoration which complements that on the box's exterior. They also have their original little ring handles and tassels.
Both compartments, plus the inside of the lid, have their original salmon pink ribbed cord linings.

Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Six turns of the key are sufficient to play the tune in full.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements And Locks
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. It is advisable to let the movement fully unwind before rewinding.
Vintage movements and locks are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction and/or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements and locks that may deteriorate or malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement and lock are still working as soon as you receive your box. They will be checked again prior to posting.

Manufacturer
This box was manufactured by the Japanese firm 'Daysun' as confirmed by their label on the bottom of the box. Daysun boxes are becoming scarce.
Condition
This box has sound structure and is in very fair vintage condition. It has some wear commensurate with age and honest use. The hinge to the right lid of the top compartment has some rust and the lid doesn't seat completely flush.
The interior linings are still neatly fitted and have no splits or fraying. There are some marks to those in the lower compartment.
The mirror is secure and has no chips or cracks.
The hinges and musical movement are still in very good working order.
