A beautiful vintage Japanese musical jewellery box, dating to the 1960s. Decorative veneer and hand-painted flowers to the lid. The interior has its original linings, mirrors and revolving ballerinas.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, made in Japan in the 1960s.
The Exterior
The lid and front of this lovely box have decorative faux wood veneer. The lid is further detailed with beautiful hand-painted leafy flowers and there is a pretty engraved metal escutcheon to the keyhole.
The rear and left/right sides of the box have been newly restored with black gloss enamel.
The box has its original stop hinges which hold the lid upright and it stands raised on its original stylish angular block feet.
Please note: The lock is not functional and therefore has no key.
The Interior
The interior has three storage compartments and two revolving resin ballerinas. This is unusual as the majority of these old musical boxes only have one ballerina.
The inside of the lid has its original mirrors. These multiple mirrors and the way they are positioned, give the appearance of many more ballerinas being present.
The three compartments plus the walls above and beneath the mirrors, all have their original red ribbed cord fabric linings. To the left and right ends of the mirrors there is silk cord trim which is also original.
The musical movement is concealed beneath the ledge where the ballerinas stand. This has recently been serviced.
The Ballerinas have hand-painted gold leotards and white net skirts. They start revolving when the musical movement is wound.
The Musical Movement

Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Six turns of the key are sufficient to play the tune in full.
The movement is in perfect working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before re-winding.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements that may deteriorate/malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in very good vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear which is commensurate with age and honest use.
As mentioned above, the rear and sides have been newly gloss enamel painted.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and have no splits or fraying.
The feet of one of the ballerinas have been repaired. Being very old and original to this box, they do have a little aged related wear.
The mirrors have clouded along their edges as is most often the case with these old Japanese boxes. Please see the interior photos provided.
The hinges are in good working order.
