A stylish 1950s vintage musical jewellery box with its original red velvet-like linings. Beautiful contrasting veneered panels to the lid and front.

This is a stylish and decorative vintage musical jewellery box, made in Japan in the 1950s.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood and has beautiful contrasting veneered panels to the lid and front. One veneer has a beautiful striped grain and the other has beautiful swirling figuration. The rest of the box (left/right sides, rear and bottom) has a lovely dark mahogany coloured stain. All of the wood/veneer has a smooth, glossy polished finish.
The box is complete with its original hinges and stands raised on its original stylish angular block feet.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment which is complete with its original red velvet-like linings. The musical movement is cased to the left of the compartment. There is further shallow storage space upon the ledge of the casing where small pieces of jewellery such as stud/hoop earrings and pendants, etc, can be placed.
The inside of the lid has its original stylish diamond shaped mirror, secure within its decorative metal supports.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays a pretty tune, the title of which we have not been able to decipher. If you'd like to listen to this before purchasing the box, please contact us by phone or Whatsapp on 07595 492846. We can also send you a video of the box playing, to Whatsapp if desired.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Six turns of the key are sufficient to play the tune in full.
The movement is in very good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. It is advisable to let the movement fully unwind before re-winding.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction and/or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements that may deteriorate or malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding. Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in excellent vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use.
The interior linings are still neatly fitted. They have a few marks from previous jewellery storage.
The hinges are still in good working order.
The mirror is still nice and clear, and has no chips or cracks.

International postage is £30 by Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For postage. Delivery is fast, within 3-5 working days to Europe and 5-7 working days to the rest of the world. Delivery may be longer depending on the speed of your local postal service and/or if your package has to go through customs. Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
