This is a beautiful restored and refurbished antique jewellery box from the late Victorian period. It has newly polished Rosewood veneer and beautiful new interior linings.

This is a beautiful restored and refurbished antique jewellery box from the late Victorian period. It is a charming small box which is an almost miniature version of much larger boxes of the same style from this period. Its size may indicate that it was designed for travel purposes.
The Exterior
This box has beautiful Rosewood veneer which has been newly polished. There is a lovely inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche to the lid; a complementary inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the keyhole and beautiful Mother of Pearl roundels to both the the lid and front.
The box is complete with its original brass hinges and lock.
The Interior
The interior has its original storage tray which has pretty pewter beading detail to the top edges. The tray has been newly restored and refurbished. The wood has been sanded, stained and varnished, and the compartment has a new padded royal blue velvet panel plus new quality blue paper linings to the walls. There is a new felt covering to the bottom of the tray and new silk pull tabs which enable you to lift the tray from the box with ease. The compartment beneath the tray and the inside of the lid are both lined in the same fashion, and the bottom of the box also has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture. The padded velvet panels provide cushioned protection for jewellery.
A lot of work has gone into this box to restore it to near its former glory. It was in a bit of a sorry state when we acquired it, but it is now looking quite lovely again.
Age
1880/1890
Condition
This box is in very fair condition for its age since being restored and refurbished. It has sound structure and only minor light age related wear. There are a couple of very old repairs to the veneer at the bottom of the box. These are on the very edges and are barely noticeable.
There are some new screws to the hinges which are still in good working order.
The interior linings, being new, are in immaculate unused condition.
All of the inlaid decoration is present and secure.
Please Note - The lock is no longer functional and therefore has no key. The lid extends right back and does not sit upright when lifted.
