A wonderful old late Victorian box with a beautifully refurbished velvet and paper lined interior. Made of solid Mahogany and dating to 1890. Complete with its original working lock and key.

This is a beautifully refurbished antique jewellery box. It is made of solid Mahogany wood and dates to the late Victorian period, circa 1890. It has a relatively simple design but is an extremely well made, solid box.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Mahogany which has beautiful colouration and a wonderful aged patina. It has high-quality exposed dovetail joints and its original twin compartment tray. Details of this are in 'The Interior' section below.
The box is complete with its original hinges plus its original working lock and key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
All of the exterior wood has been newly polished.
The Interior
The interior has been fully refurbished by ourselves. The box's original twin compartment tray is also made of solid Mahogany. The bases of its compartments plus the base of the lower compartment, have new padded burgundy velvet panels. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery. The bottom of the tray has a new black felt covering.
The walls of the lower compartment and inside of the lid, have new quality black paper linings. The rear panel to the inside of the lid has a new quality floral printed paper panel, the flowers of which beautifully complement the velvet.
History
The box was likely originally made to hold scientific/medical instruments. We have spent a lot of time on the refurbishment work in order to convert it into a beautiful and functional box for storing jewellery.
Condition
This wonderful old box is in very good condition. It is structurally sound and has no nasty chips or cracks. There is some minor age related wear to the Mahogany and a teeny 'pit' towards the front edge of the lid. This is where one of the lid's original pins would've been.
The interior velvet panels and paper linings are in immaculate unworn condition, being new.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order.

We would like to make you aware that antique locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
