Beautiful vintage musical jewellery box playing 'Blaue Donau Walzer' (The Blue Danube Waltz). Beautifully hand-painted. Original moving waterwheel and interior linings. Circa 1950s/1960s.

This is a vintage musical jewellery box in the form of a beautiful Austrian mountain chalet. It was made in Switzerland and it dates to the 1950s/1960s. The box plays the beautiful tune 'Blaue Donau Walzer' (The Blue Danube Waltz). Please click the link further down this page to view a short video of the box playing its music.
The Exterior
This charming old wooden box is beautifully handmade and decorated. It is in the form of a beautiful Austrian mountain chalet and features a moving waterwheel, a balcony, a bench, a toadstool and mountain rocks! It has beautiful hand-painted decoration, including a heart, flowers, arched door and windows/shutters. The 'fallen' rocks upon the roof are real stone chips.
The waterwheel rotates when the musical movement is wound up.
The box has its original piano hinge and it stands raised on its original angled block feet.
The bottom of the box has retained its original Cuendet Swiss Musical Movement song title label.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment and the musical movement is concealed in the base below this. The compartment and the inside of the lid have their original red felt linings.
The Musical Movement
This box has a quality Swiss Cuendet movement that plays the beautiful tune 'Blaue Donau Walzer' (The Blue Danube Waltz). This lovely piece of music was written by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss II in 1866. It is the most famous Waltz ever written and Austria's 2nd national anthem.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.

Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops, as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements that deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This lovely old box is in excellent condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and use.
The interior felt linings are still neatly fitted and in lovely clean condition. They have only very minor light wear from honest use.
The musical movement is in good working order, as stated above.
The hinge and feet are secure.
There is a little glue residue around the stone chips.
