This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, dating to the 1960s/1970s. It is a handmade unique box, likely the only one of its kind, and it has superb hand carved decoration all over.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, dating to the 1960s/1970s. It is a handmade unique box, likely the only one of its kind, and it has superb hand carved decoration all over.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood and has superb carvings to the lid and all four sides. These carvings include a castle scene, a windmill scene, a beautiful large swan, and shield shaped heraldic-like crests which feature clam shells and mythical-like sea creatures. The castle and windmill scenes could be depictions of real places (with the swan and crests relating to these) but we are not certain of this. Whatever the case, these carvings are very beautiful!
The box is complete with its original hinges plus its original beautifully turned squat bun feet.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. We have added a beautiful bespoke made bugundy velvet panel to the base of the compartment. This is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The panel is removable and can be lifted out of the box by its lovely satin ribbon pull. We have made a removable panel so that the musical movement to the right of the compartment can be accessed should it ever require attention. The casing to the movement is secured by a screw which is situated beneath the velvet panel. The back of the panel has a quality paper covering which complements the burgundy velvet.
There is a beautiful large carved rose upon the musical movement's casing.
The Musical Movement
We have not been able to decipher the movement's tune. Please contact us if you'd like to hear this before purchasing the box and we will send you a video of the tune playing.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements that deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This wonderful box is still in excellent condition. It is structurally sound and its carvings are intact.
The interior velvet panel, being new, is in immaculate condition.
The hinges are still in very good working order.
