A beautiful restored and refurbished antique jewellery box from the late Victorian period. The box has wonderful Walnut veneer and an abundance of decorative marquetry inlay. The interior has beautiful new linings.

This is a beautifully restored and refurbished antique jewellery box. It dates to the late Victorian period, circa 1880/1890. The box is complete with its original storage tray, working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has beautiful Walnut veneer and an abundance of very decorative marquetry inlay to both the lid and front. The inlay comprises of very diverse exotic woods.
There is a lovely inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche to the lid and a complementary inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the keyhole.
All of the inlay is set beautifully flush into the Walnut veneer which has wonderful figuration.
The box is complete with its original brass 'stop' hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original working brass lock and key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has its original storage tray which has been newly restored and refurbished. The wood has been sanded, stained and French polished. The compartments have new teal blue satin panels and linings. The tray has a new felt covering to the bottom plus new blue silk pull tabs that enable you to lift it out of the box with ease.
There is a large spacious single compartment beneath the tray. The compartment plus the inside of the lid have new padded teal blue satin panels and new quality floral patterned paper linings to the walls. The padded panels provide cushioned protection for jewellery. The lower compartment is deep enough to store large pieces of jewellery such as broad bangles and watches.

Age
1880/1890
Condition
This box is still in very good condition, despite its 135-145 years of age. It has sound structure and no nasty knocks or cracks.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order.
The interior linings, being new, are in clean unused condition.
There is some age related wear to the veneer and a few small old repairs to the inlay.
There is one fine superficial hairline within the veneer on the right side of the lid.
