This is a beautifully inlaid and veneered antique jewellery box. It dates to the mid 19th century, circa 1860. It has a beautifully refurbished compartment and its original working lock and key.

This is a beautifully inlaid and veneered antique jewellery box. It dates to the mid 19th century, circa 1860. It has a beautiful refurbished compartment and its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This is a high-quality sturdy box with a solid Walnut carcass. It is veneered with highly figured, beautifully coloured Walnut, and also has very decorative exotic wood inlays. The sides of the box are finished with Burr Walnut veneer and there is a stunning large Burr Walnut veneered feature on the lid. Within this Walnut feature is a circular inlaid cartouche, consisting of several exotic wood timbers. There is also a beautiful shield shaped inlaid exotic wood escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box is complete with its original brass lock and key, plus its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright.
The bottom of the box has a new green felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a single large spacious compartment which has been newly refurbished by ourselves. This is deep enough to store large pieces of jewellery such as broad bangles, watches and chunky beads.
The base of the compartment has a new 'champagne' satin panel which is a beautiful pale gold shade. The panel is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The walls have beautifully contrasting high-quality black paper linings.
The inside of the lid has its original beautiful Bird's Eye Maple veneer.
Condition
This beautiful box has sound structure and is in good condition for its 160 years of age. There are some old repairs to the veneer in a few areas and some consolidated hairline cracks within it. These do not spoil the beautiful overall appearance of the box.
The interior linings, being new, are in immaculate unused/unworn condition.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order.
