A vintage 1960s musical jewellery box with a cream faux leather finish. Partially refurbished interior. Plays 'I Love Paris'.
FREE UK TRACKED 24 DELIVERY. We Ship Worldwide.
This is a vintage cream coloured musical jewellery box, made in England in the 1960s. It plays 'I Love Paris'.
The Exterior
The box has a cream textured faux leather finish and its original gold metal clasp. It stands raised on its original stylish angular feet and has its original gold metal piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has retained its original 'MADE IN ENGLAND' and musical movement/song title labels.
The clasp securely closes the box but please note the key is missing.
The Interior
The interior has two storage compartments. The one at the front is fairly large and is deep enough to hold broad bangles and watches. The smaller rear compartment is the ideal size for storing little pieces of jewellery such as rings and earrings. The musical movement is cased to the left of this.
The interior has been partially refurbished. The bases of both compartments plus the inside of the lid have new plush burgundy velvet panels. The rest of the interior has its original red brushed felt linings.
The Musical Movement
The box has a Swiss Reuge musical movement which plays 'I Love Paris'.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Six turns of the key are required to play the tune in full.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. It is advisable to allow the movement to fully unwind before re-winding it.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction and/or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements and that may deteriorate or malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
You can view our full returns policy which includes musical movements by visiting our Payments And Returns page.
Condition
This box is in fair vintage condition. It is structurally sound and has no cracks.
The hinge is still in good working order.
The new velvet panels are in immaculate unused condition. The remaining original linings have some age related wear.
The exterior faux leather has some stains and discolouration as we'd expect with the box being 70 plus years old.
As stated above, the key is missing.
The lid is slightly off centre though this isn't overly noticeable.
To Undo The Clasp
The 'button' on the left of the clasp needs to be firmly pushed in and the lid lifted up simultaneously, in order to release the catch. (Pressing the right button at the same time will prevent the catch from releasing).
