A beautiful 1950s vintage musical jewellery box from Sorrento in Italy. Beautiful marquetry and micro mosaic inlay. The interior has been fully refurbished with blue satin panels and quality paper linings.

This is a beautiful inlaid vintage musical jewellery box. It made in Sorrento in Southern Italy in the 1950s. It has a beautiful newly refurbished interior and is complete with its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
The lid has a beautiful marquetry inlay, featuring decorative foliage/vines.
The front of the box has a band of decorative micro mosaic inlay which features beautiful flowers.
The box is made of solid Walnut and the sides have beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer. This contrasts beautifully with the solid Walnut lid and the solid Walnut to the front and rear of the box.
The sides have a beautiful curved formation and the box stands raised on its original turned and ebonised wooden feet.
The box is complete with its original working lock and key, and original piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has retained its lovely original stock number label.
About The Inlay
The micro mosaic inlay on this box is known as 'mosaic tesselated inlay'. It is made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of wood, painstakingly put together to form intricate mosaic designs.
The Interior
The interior has been newly refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a single storage compartment on the right, and the musical movement is beneath a ledge on the left. There is further shallow storage space upon the ledge.
The base of the compartment has a new blue satin panel. This is lightly padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The ledge to the musical movement has a matching satin covering.
The interior walls have new quality blue paper linings with a white polka dot print.
The inside of the lid has its original fitted oval mirror.

The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Too Young'. This was first published in 1950 and was later covered by Nat King Cole.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Three turns of the key are sufficient to wind up the musical movement. The movement is in good working order. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes About Vintage Locks And Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. It is advisable to let the movement fully unwind before re-winding it.
We would like to make you aware that vintage locks and musical movements can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks or movements that malfunction from further age and use, once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock and movement are working as soon as you receive your box. They will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This lovely box is in very good condition for its 70 years of age. It has sound structure and all of its inlay is present and secure.
The interior linings, being new, are in excellent unworn condition.
The lock and hinge are in good working order.
