A beautiful vintage jewellery box, made in Menton, in the French Riviera. Beautiful hand-carving and copper studding, plus a beautiful partially refurbished interior. Made in the 1950s as a souvenir box.

This is a beautiful vintage jewellery box, made in Menton, in the French Riviera. It is made of solid Oak and it dates to the 1950s. All of the wood has been restored and the interior has been partially refurbished.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Oak which has been newly sanded, stained and varnished.
All four sides of the box have beautiful copper studs and hand-carved detail.
The front of the box has its original 'Menton' coat of arms shield which is made of brass and beautifully enamelled. It is enscribed DEFENSOR MENTONI which is Latin for Defender of Menton. The shield is applied to a large diamond shaped copper keyhole escutcheon.
Note: The lock was not functional and has therefore been removed.
The Interior
The interior has been partially refurbished. The base of the compartment has a new bespoke deep purple velvet panel. The panel is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
We have added an 'aged' faux French postcard to the inside of the lid, plus an 'aged' faux French postmark to the inside front wall where the lock used to be. The postcard is a lovely pale lilac shade which beautifully complements the new deeper purple velvet panel. The postcard and postmark are 'stamped' Lyon, this being the capital of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. They were added to conceal the marks/gap left from the missing lock and lock keep, and they serve as a lovely tribute to the French origins of the box.
History
This box was made as a souvenir for the Menton tourist market. Menton is a beautiful medieval town in the French Riveria. It is located in the Cote d'Azur region in Southeast France.
Condition
This beautiful old box is in very good condition. The restoration of the wood has removed the majority of previous wear.
The interior linings, being new, are in immaculate condition.
The hinges are still in excellent working order.

Width: 12.5cm
Height: 13.5cm (including the feet)
Interior Compartment:
21.2 by 8.3cm with a 7.3cm depth.
The measurements of the length and width vary due to the compartment's tapered design. The largest measurements have been taken from the top edges of the compartment. The base of the compartment is 17.0 by 3.3cm.

This box will be posted FREE within the UK by Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery.
International postage is £30 by Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For postage. Delivery is fast, within 3-5 working days to Europe and 5-7 working days to the rest of the world. Delivery may be longer depending on the speed of your local postal service and/or if your parcel has to go through customs. Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
