This is a beautiful antique jewellery box, dating to the late Victorian period. It is complete with its original working lock and has a fitted replacement key. This wonderful box has a refurbished interior, and comes with a refurbished Victorian bangle box. Details of this are given below.
This box has a beautiful Burr Walnut veneer with a lovely warm colour, and very attractive figuring all over.
The lid is domed and has superb large, surface applied, solid brass decoration. This has beautiful pierced and engraved detail. There is also a lovely large pierced and engraved, surface applied brass escutcheon to the keyhole.
The bottom of the box has its original crimson covering and part of its original retaillers label.
The box has its original brass stop hinges which prevent the lid from falling back.
The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer.
There is a brand new hardwood tray at the top with 3 compartments, and a larger single compartment beneath the tray.
The tray has been beautifully French polished and stained. The centre compartment has high arched partitions, specifically made to fit the Victorian bangle box which is included in this sale.
All of the compartments have new cream satin panels, and new cream patterned paper linings.
The inside of the lid has its original padded, salmon pink watered silk panel and linings.
The Victorian Bangle Box
This beautiful box has a lovely domed lid and a secure spring loaded catch. It has been newly French polished and stained, and has newly applied gold stringing. It has its original brass decoration on the front which is pierced and enameled. The interior has its original maroon velvet and maroon silk linings.
This bangle box is not original to the box but it compliments it beautifully!
Our Jewellery Box Restorer
You can read about Jim, our wonderful box restorer, by visiting our About Us page.
This box started its life in 1870. It was originally a high quality perfume casket and would've held scent bottles. As you can see it has been lovingly converted into a beautiful, functional jewellery box.
This box is in excellent condition, despite its 140 years of age. It is of sound structure and has no knocks or cracks. There are minor superficial marks to the veneer. This is as we'd expect on a genuine antique box which has been loved and used.
The brass decoration to the lid is slightly off centre.

They are already very old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use, once the box is purchased.
