This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1870/1880. Its interior has been fully refurbished and the box is complete with its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
The exterior has a beautiful dark Rosewood veneer and inlaid Mother of Pearl 'dot' Roundels. There is also a small inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche to the lid, and an inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the lock. The box is beautifully finished with pewter stringing to the lid and front.
The Rosewood has superb figuration and lovely warm red tones.
The box is complete with its original brass lock and its original decorative key. It locks securely.
The box has its original brass stop hinges which prevent the lid from falling back.
A new green felt covering has been added to the bottom to protect the surfaces of your furniture.
Note
The lid lifts slightly when the box is locked.
The Interior
The entire interior has been beautifully refurbished with quality marbled paper linings. It has a removable storage tray with 3 large compartments and a large roomy single compartment beneath.
The bottom of the tray has a new green felt covering which matches that on the bottom of the box.
Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition despite its 130/140 years of age. It has been very well looked after by its previous owners.
There is a beautiful sheen to the Rosewood veneer and all of the Mother of Pearl inlay is intact.
The box has sound structure and only minor light age related wear.
